Here to Help: Maynard’s Gives Back to the Community

Maynard’s Restaurant in Excelsior is known for its waterside views, magnificent setting and delicious food (why, hello there, walleye fingers with house-made tartar sauce). But this local joint also prides itself on giving back to the community it serves.

Take, for example, its interest in local sports. An event this past February gave 100 percent (yes, 100 percent) of the proceeds to the Minnetonka football, baseball and softball fields.

Vital Volunteers around Lake Minnetonka

Countless men, women and children in our community benefit from the tireless efforts of volunteers willing to dedicate a bit of their free time and lend their skills and experience to important causes. These folks often work behind the scenes, seeking no pat on the back or commemorative plaque: They simply want to help make the world a better place. This month, we’re highlighting the contributions of six outstanding lake-area volunteers and the organizations they support. May they know how much they are valued and may you be inspired by their enthusiasm for giving back.

Hammer Celebrates 90 Years of Helping People with Disabilities

Mike Anderson loves getting paychecks. He feels a sense of accomplishment and, of course, relishes having a little extra cash. Anderson decided to retire in 1997, after putting in years of hard work on the job. Like many retirees, he enjoys relaxing and taking part in group activities with his peers.

Anderson is just like everybody else. Except, when he was 6 months old, he developed a brain tumor that left him mentally disabled.

Meals on Wheels Delivers Thanksgiving Dinner

Imagine not being able to have a Thanksgiving dinner. For some elderly and disabled Lake Minnetonka residents, a turkey-less holiday is a very real possibility. WeCAN Meals on Wheels helps by delivering traditional Thanksgiving dinners catered by Lake Minnetonka Shores and Haven Homes as part of the Meals on Wheels program.

The program is supported by WeCAN and many volunteers who donate financial support and their time as meal deliverers. They are always looking for volunteers during the holidays.
