Executive Editor

Executive editor Virginia Smyth recently returned to Seattle magazine after a 6-year stint overseeing a variety of publications for Group Health. Her career has included reporting and editing roles at weekly and daily newspapers. She joined Seattle magazine in 2003 after serving as editor of Seattle’s Child and Parentmap magazine, which she helped launch.

A one-time resident of the suburbs where she spent a lot of time driving, she moved to the city almost a decade ago and has become an enthusiastic proponent of walkable neighborhoods and transportation that doesn’t involve a car. When not at work, you’re likely to find her on the ski slopes in the winter, on local hiking or biking trails in the summer, or on the road exploring our region. Virginia accepts pitches for political, education, and news-related stories, health and fitness topics, regional travel, and general features.
